Urban Community, a real estate company led by local developers Gary Dillabough and Jeff Arrillaga, has proposed a trio of towers that would sprout on parcels at S. Second St. Third St. The three towers all have an airy appearance and are adorned with decks and greenery and envision structures with varied surfaces. The highrises would add residences to downtown San Jose, if the projects are all constructed, documents on file with municipal planners show.
Two of the three towers would be connected and would rise at S. The remaining tower is planned for S. Dillabough and Arrillaga have teamed up with Westbank, a Canada-based developer with a global reach, in several downtown San Jose projects, including the Bank of Italy renovation and a proposed office tower on Park Avenue next to The Tech Interactive.
Westbank and Dillabough also are working on office towers and a housing highrise on two sites across the street from the S. Second parcel. If some or all of these projects are built in the next few years, they are poised to dramatically reshape the skyline — and the streetscape — of that section of downtown San Jose. A story tower and a story highrise that would be connected are planned for the South Second Street site now occupied by the supermarket and the retail center.
An estimated residential units and 8, square feet of retail space would be included, along with up to six commercial condominiums. A story tower with residences and 3, square feet of ground-floor retail would be built at the South Third Street site now occupied by the apartment complex. Up to three commercial condominiums would be part of the project. All of the existing buildings on the two parcels are slated to be bulldozed under the current proposal. Underground parking is planned for the three towers, which would all be accessed from South Third Street.
