Canadian-born artist Jodie Blaney first picked up her brushes about 10 years ago. She still recalls the day her first sold painting, 'View from Kopio Coffee', was accepted into a juried art show at a local gallery, much to her amazement.
This experience ignited a long buried passion to paint. Over the years, her easily recognizable painting style has won praise from gallery owners and collectors alike who are drawn to her vibrant colours, rhythmical compositions and strong forms. Prior to becoming a painter, Jodie spent over a decade in the publishing field where she held positions in sales and management in Vancouver and Toronto.
During these years, Jodie traveled extensively from coast to coast experiencing the country's natural beauty firsthand. When her son, Sam, was born, Jodie and her family put down roots in in her hometown of Richmond, BC, settling in Steveston, a picturesque fishing village on the west coast. The quaint harbourfront with its fishing boats and busy tourist areas provided the backdrop for many of her earliest 'nautical' paintings.
Over the years, she has participated in and presented art workshops, exhibits and events. Other creative ventures include deing and teaching an art program for children, and freelance writing. Jodie's work is collected in Canada and abroad and she's completed many private commissions. Studio visits are welcome by appointment! Select Group Exhibitions.
